Arlington, VA -
The BRHC expresses it's sincere condolences to the family, friends and players of George Washington University Head Coach Joseph Baratta, who passed away December 20. Baratta's son David serves as the GW President. The Baratta family will present the Colonial MVP Award at this year's BRHC Tournament.
Joseph was the head coach at last year's victory over Catholic at the Verizon Center as well as the championship victory over Loyola in last year's CCHC playoffs. His most notable victories this year came only a week apart, upsetting Georgetown University for the first time in his four year GW tenure in a shootout 5-4 and an upset the following weekend over BRHC titan ECU 3-2 in overtime. He loved the players of the GW team very much and he will be buried this weekend wearing his GW coaching jacket with his famous skate sharpening stone and the scoresheet to the Georgetown victory in his pocket.
He would want everyone at USA Hockey, the ACH
A, and the BRHC to know how important the continued advancement of hockey is for the youth of our nation and that he loved being a part of it.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made to, GW Ice Hockey c/o Aubre Jones, The George Washington University 2301 G Street, NW, Suite 217 Washington, DC 20052
